Starting up a Daisy Troop

Taking the initiative to start anything can sometimes be difficult.  Their is always that aspect of "fear of the unknown". Especially when we feel that maybe we already have our hands full. and this might make things overwhelming.

Girl Scouting used to be more prevalent back in the day.  I always thought that when the time came for my girls to be in Girl Scouts, that the troops would be all around for my picking and placing!  I can't speak for the rest of the country, but here in Utah for some reason, it is very minimal.  It is surprising and saddening.  Such a great organization that has helped generations of girls find their purpose and meaning, and form them into responsible, capable young women. The good news is that you don't have to wait around for things to happen.  Take initiative and start your very own troop!

Why would I ever willingly decide to be in charge of a group 6-7 year old giggly, rambunctious, sometimes overly emotional girls??
  • Honestly, I believe that it is ingrained in my core to love and appreciate every child.  Since as far back as I can remember I have being involved in some aspect of youth development.  From babysitting for community service hours, to being a volunteer at a Summer Camp, and even working at a boarding program with girls from all over the world.
  • I am not one of those people who have had friends for a lifetime...and I have no guarantees, of course.  But how great would it be for my Daisies to grow alongside each other.  Some will go, new girls will come, that's inevitable. The good news is that we can all change and move (obviously within the city), but still have a common thread bringing us together on a regular basis.  And even if that is not the case, I still know that I helped to make a memorable childhood for all my Little Daisies :D
  • I've been told that I am a control freak.  For the longest time, I didn't believe it.  As it turns out, I do like to do things myself because I hate the insecurity of not knowing if others will come through.  So this is good for me on both sides.  Ultimately, I decide most things.  But.....Girl Scouts is a "Girl-Led Organization"....and mine are 6-7....so it is teaching me that it is okay to hand over the reigns and see what great things these precious minds can come up with.  Many times, it helps me to see another perspective, a more genuine and innocent way to look at life and things.
  • As I mentioned earlier, Girl Scouts is such a great Organization!  I am so excited to see the impact that it will have on my Girls (both my own and my Daisies).  I have already seen in these short few months how it has given them a sense of belonging and purpose.  At school, they have a stronger bond than the rest of the little kids.  I'm not going to lie, it gives me a strong sense of pride!
  • The giggles and hugs are totally worth every minute of it!!
